The Searles Building doesn't and never did work as a school initially, and has been renovated many times in the past. It WON'T work now.

To the editor:

No one seems to be able to see the forest for the trees!

The Searles Building doesn’t and never did work as a school initially, and has been renovated many times in the past.  It WON’T work now as many contractors have looked at it for renovation.

The Low Down: The building is too expensive to try and renovate, and it is an ADA nightmare!

So, we have come to a fork in the road here …. one path to take is a hotel in town, which will bring prosperity to Great Barrington (let’s not forget we are a tourist town ). The other path is to “Save Searles” but do we really want to look at a crumbling eye sore for the next 30 years???

I’ve grown up here my entire life and I miss what used to be our town. I knew everyone in Great Barrington, but times have changed, and nothing stays the same forever! So, maybe take some pictures, grab a brick or two, and let’s move forward.

Remember! Our industry is tourism!
