A skilled artist by trade, Ms. Merker was the art director at Crane Stationery. She was very creative and designed beautiful greeting cards, mostly inspired from nature. She was also very athletic and actively played tennis and golf through her 80s; later she enjoyed watching the tournaments on TV. One of her prized possessions was a silver plate from the Belmont Country Club after achieving second place for the Member-Guest Tournament in 1964. She was a legacy and kind neighbor to all in the King William neighborhood, where she lived for 53 years in the home she designed. Sue, as she was known as in her neighborhood, believed that having a sense of humor was the key to a long healthy life.

Ms. Merker is survived by two nieces, Anne (Tucker) Grant of Westlake Village, Calif. and Peggy (Robert) Eddy of Coronado, Calif., and by her many friends, caregivers, and acquaintances, with whom she laughed and enjoyed life over her many years.

Besides her parents, Marcella is predeceased by her sister Lucille Merker of Lenox; her sister Ann Merker Leary and husband Col. Francis X. Leary of Lake San Marcos, Calif.; and her brother Albert J. Merker Jr. and wife Christine Lanigan Merker of River Forest, Ill.

Marcella had a strong love and faith in God, leaving behind a note simply saying, “I will see you in Heaven.”
