George ‘Pat’ Fitzpatrick Jr., 71, of Housatonic

He was an amateur astronomer and gave lectures at the Williams College Planetarium. He loved classical music and composed music symphonies. Pat was also an accomplished pianist.

George “Pat” Fitzpatrick Jr., 71 of Housatonic died Wednesday,July 6, 2016 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Pat was born in Great Barrington on June 13, 1945 son of George P. and Eileen (McArdle) Fitzpatrick.

He was a graduate of the former Searles High School class of 1963. Pat attended the U.S. Air Force Academy, University of Massachusetts, Western New England College and Simons Rock College. Pat was also a member of the Air Force Reserve. Pat worked at the Great Barrington Milk Exchange, Turner and Cook Whip Factory, Gorham and Norton Grocery, Pittsfield General Electric as a transformer assembler and most recently Simon’s Rock College. He was an amateur astronomer and gave lectures at the Williams College Planetarium, he loved classical music and composed music symphonies. Pat was also an accomplished pianist.

Pat is survived by one son, Kevin Fitzpatrick of Monterey, one daughter, Amy McMeeklin and fiancé Eric Boardman of Monterey, one brother, Michael Fitzpatrick and wife Elaine of Great Barrington, longtime companion Joy Doane of Great Barrington and three granddaughters, Katrina Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth McMeeklin and Madison McMeeklin. Pat is predeceased by two sons Mark Fitzpatrick and Daren Fitzpatrick and sisters Mary Fitzpatrick and Margaret Fitzpatrick.

Funeral services for George “Pat” Fitzpatrick Jr. will be held on Friday June 8 at 11 a.m., at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, Mass. 01230, with the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mahaiwe Cemetery. Family will receive friends on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in Pat’s memory may be made to S.B.V.A.S. in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.
